Switch from GasWalk the house before choosing a finish line
Record the fuel used by space heating, water heating, cooking, clothes drying, fireplaces and any other connected appliance. For each one, note its location, model when visible, known condition and whether replacement is already being considered. Keep covers in place and do not enter unsafe areas to complete the list.
Photograph relationships, then labels
Take a wide room view before close equipment labels. A shared mechanical room can reveal venting, drainage, service access and routes that affect more than one project. The photograph is preparation for qualified assessment, not a way to size electrical or mechanical work remotely.
Choose a phase without forcing every appliance into it
An appliance can belong in the current project, at its next replacement, later, or in a deliberate “keep gas” category. Record the reason, such as active failure, planned renovation or no current reason to change. This prevents a whole-home goal from becoming an assumption that everything must happen at once.
Discontinuing utility gas service is a later coordination step after every remaining use and the utility’s requirements are resolved.
